Online poker
Online poker has opened up the game to an entirely new market of players across the globe. Players that are usually intimidated by the thought of going to a casino, or entering a tournament have the ability to play from the comfort of their own homes. Online pokeris also becoming more popular because it is easier for websites to profit from poker instead of standard brick and morter casinos -and also much cheaper to run and maintain.
Fraud
Though some may be concerned with fraud, it is surprisingly low and easy to manage online. Over the years fraud prevention has improved, and is now at a point where players are becoming much more comfortable playing online. Previously concerns such as multiple players playing from the same household, or other types of player cohesion were a concern, however tracking IP addresses locations of computers that are playing) and analyzing playpatterns helps prevent against these kinds of fraud.Fra
Cost to Play
FraudPri
Perhaps the most attractive aspect of playing online (aside from its convenience) is the fact that it is so cheap to play. Online sites are able to keep costs cheap because of the low overhead costs. And as casinos grow, the additional user base is very easy to support - especially in contrast to their brick and morter competitors. Players have the ability to play for very low stakes (as low as 1 cent) and therefore can use online poker as a cheap means of practicing against other live players. This is an EXCELLENT resource for learning and I highly encourage players who want to learn how to play to utilize it. It is a great way to learn the game, and get some practice in against real players before moving onto higher stakes. Keep in mind however that the players you will likely meet in low stakes poker games are of less than average skill level, so don't expect to learn a lot from your opponents, but rather pick up on the experience of playing the game. All in all it will be a great low cost experience. Low price online poker is a method for learning that can simply not be beat.
Winning
Believe it or not, people do win when playing poker online. With that being said, keep in mind, there are also those that lose. My recommendation for all poker players that can control their spending is to definitely give it a try. There are three main reasons for this:
1) Whether a beginner or a seasoned veteran, you will improve your game (both online and off). Even though you can't monitor the physical responses of a player when playing online, you learn to hone in your other observations skills such as analyzing betting patterns, and the way players react to winning and losing. These skills are extremely valuable, and can be applied in combination with watching a players physical responses to significantly improve your game.
2) You will get better, and you can win. With that in mind, understand that you can also lose. But, if you give it time, approach the game methodically and practice at low stakes tables, over time you can improve your game significantly. After doing so, you can start to bet more, and start to win more. As you get better, you'll see your winnings start to increase. The important skill you need to learn here is restraint, and understanding when to quit. If you are know when to quit and cut your loses, over time, you'll find yourself consistently coming out on top. These are all skills that you learn over time.
3) You'll have fun! Online poker is a great way to meet people and generally have a good time. Everybody loves a good poker game and the social aspect of the game is great. Also, you'll find your game improve significantly and you'll become a much better player overall, both online and off.
