Texas Hold 'Em

Considered by most to be the premier card game, and ultimate form of poker, hold 'em is a community card game that has 4 betting rounds.

Gameplay:

1) One player acts as a dealer (marked by a dealer button), which is passed around clockwise after every hand is completed.

2) The player directly to the left of the dealer is the small blind, and the next player in sequence is the big blind. They must put money in before the cards are dealt. The amount of the blinds is defined before the game.

3) The dealer then deals two cards face down to every player. These cards are referred to as hole cards.

4) The first round of betting begins with the player sitting directly after (clockwise) the big blind. Betting then continues in a clockwise motion for every player has had the chance to bet.

5) After the first round is completed, the top card on the deck is burned (placed aside face down) and the next three cards are turned face up. These community cards are called the flop.

6) The next round begins with the player sitting directly to the left of the dealer. Upon completion, another card is burned and one more community card is flipped face up. This is called the turn card.

7) Another round of betting commences, after which one more card is burned and the final card is flipped face up. This card is called the river.

8) The players must combine their hole cards with the community cards (7 in total) to make the best possible 5 card hand they can. The player who has the best hand wins. Below is an illustration of the different poker hands possible.
